How low will the DJIA go? (1)

As I am sure many Americans have done over the past few weeks, I have had many discussions with friends about the recent stock market gyrations and potential economic fallout from the financial crises. To get some perspective, I went to Yahoo! Finance and looked at a chart of the DJIA prices from 1929 to the present. I took a rough estimate of the high price before a precipitous fall and then tried to find ...Shared by Parker (20)Contribute comment -

Tickets to the 2010 Winter Olympics just went on sale a few hours ago:http://www.cosport.com/I bought tickets for Snowboarding, Biathlon, and Short-track Speed Skating. The latter sport I didn’t even know about until today. It’s like roller derby on ice, with a relay-race component built in. I was surprised at how expensive the tickets for more popular sports are. $200 for figure skating? $400 for ice hockey?! Supply and demand, I guess. There are (relatively) cheap hostel ...Shared by Parker (20)Contribute comment -

Lessons Learned (31) permalink
There are three legs to the lean startup concept: agile product development, low-cost (fast to market) platforms, and rapid-iteration customer development. When I have the opportunity to meet startups, they usually have one of these aspects down, and need help with one or two of the others. The most common need is becoming more customer-centric. They need to incorporate customer feedback into the product development and business planning process. I usually recommend two things: try ...Contribute comment -

My friend Howard was visiting me a few weeks ago and he said to me "free is over, I am only investing in services that customers pay for". He said "freemium is dead". I reminded him that freemium is a paid model, but he wasn't buying it. There's a movement afoot by investors to back web services with a real business model instead of the pervasive "give it away for free and hope for the ...Shared by ConceptSL (60) Alex (46) Andrei (32) Andrew (17) AndrewBadera (97) Anton Johansson (51) Ben Casnocha (9) Carter (16) Dominik (47) elstudio (23) Eric (55) Eric Rice (73) Jay Liew (65) Joshua (22) kepp (92) likejazz (34) Lindsay (10) Murat Kahraman (16) Parker (20) poorbird (28) Raffy Banks (1) Sam (30) Scott (20) Shea Gunther (104) Unity (20)Contribute comment -

My Thoughts On "Startup Depression" (26)

- Clay said: "Seed/startup investing is most profitable early in a venture cycle and late stage investing is most profitable late in a venture cycle. It makes sense if you think of venture capital as a cyclical business and it is very cyclical. Early in a cycle you want to back young companies at bargain prices and enjoy the demand for those companies as the cycle takes hold. Late in a cycle you want to back established companies that need a "last round" to get to breakeven and you can get that at a bargain price compared to what others paid before you. I've been in the venture capital business since 1986 (that was a down cycle) and I've seen this happen at least three times, probably four times now."
