Our review: Chrome more than capable of taking on IE and Firefox (3)

Add web browers to the list of things Google does well. The Mountain View-based search giant debuted its new web browser today in a public beta, and I’ve spent most of the afternoon poking around the web and seeing how Chrome performs. The verdict? While it’s still a few iterations from displacing Firefox as my browser of choice, Chrome is already provides a much more pleasant web experience than Microsoft’s newest competitor Internet Explorer 8 ...Contribute comment -

And BoomTown has to wonder who is going to try to catch it without getting sliced and slashed. As we noted earlier about Yahoo’s dicey situation, in a back-to-school post about what various Internet companies need to focus on in the months ahead: Simply put, time is running out for the languid stylings of Yahoo management, whom I hope have been ferreting away since the controversial annual meeting at the start of August on a ...Contribute comment -

It’s no secret that virtual goods are a big business but how big exactly, nobody has really been totally clear. Yesterday Jeremy Liew of Lightspeed Venture Partners released an analysis done by the company which suggested that Facebook could generate up to $43 million this year alone from virtual goods. How does Facebook generate so much money from their virtual goods? Well as Eric Eldon points out Facebook generates a lot of demand for their ...Shared by Adam (36) Shailesh Ghimire (5)Contribute comment - Meg Whitman's political leap (1)

If you have any doubts about what Google is trying to do with Chrome (its new "web browser"), let Sergey put them to rest. Reuters: Google co-founder Sergey Brin said Chrome was designed to address the shift to using software from within a Web browser rather than as locally installed computer applications running inside Microsoft Windows or some other operating system. In January of this year, we estimated that Facebook was selling digital gifts worth $15m per year. We based this estimate on an analysis of the number of each gift available each week over a 7 week period. Facebook creates a certain fixed number of each type of gift. When the number remaining for any particular gift drops below 100,000, Facebook displays the number left.
