permalinkA Associação de Informática de Castelo Branco vai realizar a Primeira Linux Install Fest de Castelo Branco. Este evento vai realizar-se em duas tardes, no IPJ de Castelo Branco, nos dias 20 e 21 de Setembro de 2008. Durante o evento vai haver palestras sobre Linux, demonstração de Live Distros, mostra de aplicações de Linux no dia a dia (Media Center, Escritório, etc...) e jogos em Linux. permalinkHandivi In the Portuguese Web scene there were two projects that caught my eye. The first one is Tarpipe and the second one is Handivi. I’ve been in touch with the 7syntax team and I was waiting the first alpha preview. Until that moment I knew nothing about it, except that it envolved Python and J2ME. Why is Chrome a big deal? (1)
permalinkGoogle just launched today their new open-source browser called Chrome. They're now adding a new element to the browser wars along with IE, Mozilla Firefox, Safari and Opera. This is a really smart move from Google towards building their Google OS.So, will I use it as my preferred browser? Well, YES and NO. Rethinking the Desktop Model (3)

It is time to rethink the way the desktop works. Some of my ideas may seem radical but sometimes evolution is the only solution to all of our problems. Read on… I have this idea for quite some time now. Picture the following: a stripped-down Linux kernel with all security mechanisms to the max; levels 2 to 5 configured to run just the most basic set of services such the scheduler, the hardware abstraction and ...- FVT or FVTer said: Beyond some of the security issues, we really need a new desktop paradigm that helps make everyday tasks more efficient! Although things are moving that way, its happening by adding more and more to the existing thus making things work less than efficiently and worse slowing us down!

It's great to hear that Marc Canter is writing a book, called 'How to build the Open Mesh'. He's been working for years on this vision with his product PeopleAggregator. He's just posted the four Appendices that conclude the book in his blog. It's a great overview of the major web platforms: Google, Yahoo!, Microsoft Mesh, and Facebook/MySpace. Can We Trust The Cloud? (1)
permalinkToday, like million of people, I’ve been greeted by a scary Google screen of death while trying to access my Gmail account, Yeah right, I’ve been told everything is fine. I know those companies do their best to protect your data — after all, it’s their core business –, but we all know a massive outage could happen anytime for whatever reasons; natural disasters, fire, hackers, you name it.
