After an update to Yahoo Site Explorer’s backlink tracking query results, Barry Schwartz reported over at SERoundtable that many webmasters were reporting a drop in their overall backlinks reporting, some with up to 100K backlinks missing. Has Yahoo Site Explorer gone the way of the Googlebird in its backlinks reporting? More big newspaper layoffs/buyouts announced (1)

It’s the same sad song, different sad verse. Today three newspapers announced layoffs or buyout offers that could affect more than 500 jobs altogether. Two are McClatchy papers: the Charlotte Observer, which aims to eliminate about 75 positions, and the Raleigh News & Observer, which is cutting 320 jobs has offered buyouts to 320 employees. For a while, Twitter's reliability issues were a running joke in the blogosphere, with Twitter's iconic Fail Whale appearing on anything from tatoos to t-shirts. According to the latest update from Twitter, however, the service had an uptime of 99.88% in August. As Twitter's co-founder Biz Stone points out, Twitter is working diligently to improve Twitter's reliability. Comcast is out telling defending its bandwidth caps and how they are not bad. And how 250 GB transfer is plenty and enough to do whatever we want to do. Of course, in today’s terms that is more than enough, but what happens in the future. An internal source at AT&T discussed the problems fixed by the 2.0.2 update, explaining, in no uncomplicated terms, that the update controlled the UMTS power control in the phone. Each iPhone requires a small amount of power from the transmitter and that power is requested by the phone itself. If too many phones ask for too much power at once, the transmitter starts shutting down, resulting in dropped calls. Facebook continued tweaking the News Feed in the redesigned Facebook this morning with 2 interesting changes: Status Updates now always occupy the top three story spots “All Stories” has been renamed to the more exciting “Live Feed” The first three status updates also do not have the “show me more/less about this person” feedback options.
