Finally, the moment you’ve all been waiting for. Here is the video of Zed Shaw’s keynote speech from CUSEC 2008. This was the opening keynote in 2008 and was repeatedly quoted by many delegates for the rest of the conference. Our feedback forms consistently said “Zed Shaw” was their favourite part of CUSEC, and suggested we have more steaks and strippers. Don’t get it? Watch this video. Alternative Memcache Usage: A Highly Scalable, Highly Available, In-Memory Shard Index (19)

High Scalability - Building bigger, faster, more reliable websites. (420) permalink
While working with Memcache the other night, it dawned on me that it’s usage as a distributed caching mechanism was really just one of many ways to use it. That there are in fact many alternative usages that one could find for Memcache if they could just realize what Memcache really is at its core – a simple distributed hash-table – is an important point worthy of further discussion. To be clear, when I say ...Shared by 無名 (34) CesarS (19) Charleno Pires (100) D-Arb (17) Dave Hodson (42) dH (32) elijah.wright (15) Eric (37) glongman (37) green (29) Ido (18) jrivero (33) Lucindo (20) Mike Fruchter (864) moaikids (72) Patrick Debois (55) Robert Dempsey (34) yanfeng (31) Zaki (94)Contribute comment -

Why Mirroring Is Not a Backup Solution (31)

Craig writes "Journalspace.com has fallen and can't get up. The post on their site describes how their entire database was overwritten through either some inconceivable OS or application bug, or more likely a malicious act. Regardless of how the data was lost, their undoing appears to have been that they treated drive mirroring as a backup and have now paid the ultimate price for not having point-in-time backups of the data that was their business." ...Shared by Aaron (19) Allen (29) Ben Guild (83) Ben Shoemate (55) Brent Ozar (30) Brome (54) cburleson (38) Chris (48) Chris Escalante (30) Compuwizard123 (40) dasmart (15) Derek (20) Dinh Luong (83) GerardM (11) JA Castillo (35) Jamin (45) Jason (52) JD Wade (17) John (30) John Albright (23) Jose M Vidal (52) Larry Osterman (54) Lucindo (20) Mats (36) Patrick (28) Promethean (90) Randal Burgess (39) Rex (32) splashme (26) zeljko marcec (37) ZZamboni (36)Explore read four notes- splashme said: Holy crap. Nathan Froyd: mimeparse in lisp (2)

Planet RGSB (19) permalink
Since everybody else is implementing mimeparse in their favorite programming language, I thought it would be appropriate to have a Common Lisp version of mimeparse. I'm not completely happy with it and it's certainly not anywhere near ready for production use, but maybe other people can have some fun with it. Only tested in SBCL, but should be portable enough.Shared by hober (34) Lucindo (20)Contribute comment - EmacsWiki: Line Numbers (1)
