Recently, Jeremiah Owyang from Forrester relayed a post an agency had created on how to detect "carpetbaggers" in social media (and a self-promotional video from another agency and a video of someone reading the original post...). The goal of the agency was to claim that their approach is legitimate and that marcom executives had better watch out for consultants or agencies professing expertise and solutions in social media that they do not have. For the ...Shared by Chris Bailey (2) CommunicateAsia (18) frjohnsen (28) Joe Fernandez (18) Morgan (79) warren sukernek (77)Contribute comment -

Retweet Rank Documents Topical Influence & Audience Interest (7)

by Brian Solis It’s the week for new Twitter Apps to say the least. On the heels of our coverage of Replies by TwitApps, we’re now introduced to Retweet Rank. Retweetrank measures the RT reach and topical influence of anyone on Twitter by calculating the number of RT’s associated with a username. It then ranks the results based on the quantity of retweets (the close to 1, the better) and also provides an approximate percentile ...Shared by Andy Sowards (208) Cindy Stanford ~ hci (10) gastaoss (78) Hasan (74) Jesse Stay (121) Joe Fernandez (18) John Tropea (43)Contribute comment - Hacker News | Ask HN: Page Rank Suggestions (1)

It’s Not How Many Followers You Have That Counts, It’s How Many Times You Get Retweeted (79)

Over the weekend a lot of tech bloggers got into a tizzy over a suggestion that Twitter search should rank Tweets by authority, with Tweets from people who have the most followers coming up first. Some bloggers quickly objected that this was somehow undemocratic or would give spammers more of an incentive to trick people into following them, and thus would be easy to game. One developer went ahead and created exactly that search experience ...Shared by (jeff)isageek (92) 2Bad (19) abduzeedo (57) Akeem Williams (4) Alex (49) Allan Ruiz (2) Apogeonline (4) Apostlion (114) Åsa Johan (21) Avi (27) ax0n (93) Ben (164) Ben Shoemate (55) Carlos Mantero (16) Chris Brogan (32) Clint Maher (1464) CoSkay (31) danblank (14) David Finch (14) deeped (75) Devlin D (38) Drew Schiller (1) Egor (18) Erik C. How ReTweets Spread: The Epidemiology of Viral Messaging on Twitter (28)

Now that my ReTweet mapping system is functioning, I’m able to start compiling more granular data on the actual dynamics of the spread of ReTweet streams. First, I’ll start with some simple averages. For the first 3 numbers –depth, users and Tweets, I’m looking at entire ReTweet streams, that is the whole tree, starting with the original Tweet and all of the subsequent ReTweets. What we see here is that the large majority of ReTweet ...Shared by Adam Javůrek (17) Andreas Klinger (72) Andrew Girdwood (16) Atul Arora (230) Bruno (8) carl morris (57) dan (100) Dan York (3) Ian Geldard (90) Jacob Harris (10) Jay Salyers (14) Joe Fernandez (18) Jorge Barba (159) JuneM (17) kaigani (26) Karoli (65) Koka Sexton (25) Kyle Mathews (2) Lord Matt (90) markhawker (35) Meryn Stol (135) Mike Fruchter (873) Mike Sansone (29) Philip Lei (27) Ray Grieselhuber (32) Tim Hoeck (48) Tim Hoeck (72) VC Freak (67)Contribute comment -
On Twitter, Followers Aren’t Really Friends (53)

This past weekend, we had yet another tempest in a teapot here in the blogosphere, this time over what, exactly, determines the authority of a tweet on Twitter. Some argued that the number of followers is the best yardstick with which to measure how important a tweet was, while others argued that it is who you follow that’s more valuable. The high drama made me wonder: Why can’t a tweet just be a tweet? Why ...Shared by Adam Javůrek (17) Alex (49) ArjanZuidhof (15) arjun (6) Atul Arora (230) Avi (27) ax0n (93) Baldo (50) Bernie Dodge (15) bfernald (28) Brandon J.
