Google Trends, which shows you the hot search queries on Google at any given time, is more than two years old now (this year they added website/domain tracking as well). PR professionals and brand managers use it regularly to track how hot their assets are, and there are countless other uses for the service. One use though, which is becoming increasingly popular we hear, is for blogs, mainstream media sites and others to monitor Google ...

Later than we expected, Nationwide have published their house price figures for September. It's another 1.7% fall in the month, leaving the annual figure down 12.4%... a number that's getting a bit of press this morning since it's the biggest annual fall figure since 1991. Meanwhile, accompanying literature from Nationwide's Fionnuala Earley points out that the rate of fall is beginning to stabilise, and draws on the company's 50 years of house price measurement to ...

Imagine today, but a year from now. You might still be waiting for the next version of Windows Mobile. Apparently hardware vendors had been expecting the final version to arrive “by early next year” but were recently told that it wouldn’t be ready until the second half on next year, according to CNET. In other news, guess what’s white hot right now? Operating systems for mobile phones. Microsoft stands to lose a lot of market ...

Nothing is worse than arriving at a remote destination, turning on your computer, and finding out that you left something critical back at home. That’s where remote control software comes in, and I’ve previously covered a few of the best known products in this category. Recently, I’ve been using a much lesser-known, free and open source remote control product called TightVNC. It has a lot going for it, and many web workers may find it ...

When you type something in the Firefox address bar, it automatically performs a Google search if the phrase you typed doesn’t match a web domain. The situation is slightly different with OpenDNS but can be reverted with a simple hack. Now, for some unknown reason, the default search function of the Firefox address bar broke after installing the Google Toolbar (version 5.0). The searches from Firefox address bar were getting redirected to some server at ...

I love useful tools like this. Songreference has a free download for iTunes (Windows only for now) and Winamp called MiniTube that searches for the music video of whatever MP3 you are playing at the time and then plays it synced to the song. That syncing part isn’t trivial, and it makes all the difference. The plugin also has links to Wikipedia information on each song. See a demo video here. Crunch Network: CrunchBoard because ...

These people (the U.S. government) need to be stopped. Every time we get ourselves into an economic mess, there’s usually some milestone idiocy we can point back to as the government action that made the meltdown inevitable. Take the current housing crisis that has now spread to the financial markets in general. The cause was too-easy credit that fueled a massive increase in housing prices as people bought houses they couldn’t afford with mortgages they ...

I'm disgusted by the whole thing. Not entirely surprised that it all began during the Clinton administration. I guess all of us responsible folks, who purchased homes within our means, will have to foot the bill for the idiots that didn't have enough sense to do the same, and the banks (and government) that allowed it to happen. As I said, disgusting.

When I hate to say this, the moving up of interest rates in India may help us in the long run. But since I had borrowed money for home nearly four years ago at one of the lowest interest rates, it really pains to mention this, banks/builders have profiteered enormously due to this. And is still happening in India. Don't know when the mad people would come out of their craze to buy realty, which they can't afford.
