Becoming a Worldly Person (4)
on Obie Fernandez (5) permalinkAbout 10 years ago my life changed forever. Together with my wife and baby girl, I left behind dozens of family members and scores of friends, and moved hastily to a new life in Atlanta, Georgia. Recent events have reminded me that without that move I would never have come close to achieving the accomplishments that define my life today. I am celebrating tonight and reminding you that sometimes, all you need to break out ...Contribute comment

Developer != Designer (18)
on Scott Hanselman's Computer Zen (69) permalinkI wanted a custom cursor for BabySmash! My son was having trouble associating the mouse cursor on the screen and the movement of the mouse. Clearly a shiny new Kids Cursor was in order. I went into Expression Blend and drew this hand cursor. I drew it with the spliney-liney pully-thing-tool. (That's the official name for it, I'm sure. I was feeling pretty good about this cursor. It had a gradient and everything. I put ...Shared by Alan Dean (261) Benk (11) Charleno Pires (78) EricAppel (9) Henrik Paul (0) Jannik (5) Joel (2) leekelleher (5) Lou (16) Luke (0) Mike (72) Mike F (1570) Peter (41) spoon16 (24) StevenMcD (0) Tim Costantino (2) Ville (0) Yuvi (111)Contribute comment

The Cleverest Calendar Ever (43)
on How to Change the World (145) permalinkI love ideas like this: bubble-wrap calendars. You pop each day when it's done. A company from Brooklyn sells them for $50--$50 for bubble wrap! I love the margins as much as the idea. Social cameras, on the way (Scripting News) (7)
on Scripting News (199) permalinkBijan got a preview of the iPhone 2.0 software, which adds location to the camera. It's a piece of the social camera puzzle. When you come back from vacation where there are lots of other people taking pictures, go to Flickr 4.0 and enter the location and the time, and voila, vacation pictures and you're in all of them. :-) It's bad news for people cheating on their spouses. The unary ampersand in Ruby (7)
on raganwald (4) permalinkA marshmallow toasting dragon slayer from Montréal asked about the unary &. I like this question, because when I saw it, I realized immediately that although I’ve figured out how to use it to accomplish certain things, writing an answer serves the excellent purpose of forcing myself to learn more. Let’s start with what I do know, and what everyone can figure out from grepping source code: It has something to do with converting things ...Shared by Alec Resnick (124) Anthony Garcia (9) aurelian (8) dale.brayden@gmail.com (29) Matt (6) Tim Goh (52) Ville (0)Contribute comment

Government Whore (1)
on Building a Software Company (0) permalinkEven though I once worked for a defense contractor, I never thought about federal government contracting until a government contractor approached me about subcontracting on an extension to a contract they had. I looked at the requirements, which my product met off the shelf, and thought wow, that's a lot of money I could make if we win! 500 seats at $10K a seat (the off-the-shelf discount price), means easy government contractor money! Woo-hoo!Hmmmm, doesn't ...Shared by Ville (0)Contribute comment

Thomas Hawk's Digital Connection: My Photography Workflow (81)
on Thomas Hawk's Digital Connection (384) permalinkProbably the question that I get asked more than any other is about my photography workflow. I actually feel like my photography workflow is pretty simple so I thought I'd write up a brief post documenting my process all the way from photo capture to photo publishing.
