Meet Chrome, Google’s Windows Killer (94)

Make no mistake. The cute comic book and the touchy-feely talk about user experience is little more than a coat of paint on top of a monumental hatred of Microsoft. Chrome, the Webkit-based Google browser that launches tomorrow at Google.com/chrome, will give them a real foothold on the desktop and way more control over how web applications perform. They’ve built their own Javascript engine despite the fact that Webkit already has one. At Google, we have a saying: “launch early and iterate.” While this approach is usually limited to our engineers, it apparently applies to our mailroom as well! As you may have read in the blogosphere, we hit "send" a bit early on a comic book introducing our new open source browser, Google Chrome. We will be launching the beta version of Google Chrome tomorrow in more than 100 countries. So why are we launching Google Chrome? ...Shared by [BLT]FQX (60) aaron (93) Aaron (2) Aaron (5) Abhishek (6) Adam (14) Adam Fuhrer (53) Aelle (24) Akeem Williams (11) Alan Dean (32) Alberto (23) Alex (19) Alex (8) Alex France (114) Alexander13 (313) Alexandru Burciu (18) alfred westerveld (24) Amir (8) Amish Schulze (16) Andrew (27) Andrew Girdwood (33) Andrew Hughes (25) Andrew Schott (48) Andrew Terry (24) Andrew Walkingshaw (13) Andrey (3) andy bons (3) Angus (41) ani625 (57) Antoine (27) Antoine van Dinter (6) Anurag (3) Appu (17) Aren Grimshaw (2) atomantic (1) atul (70) azin (7) b (23) Babychen Mathew (226) Ben (4) Berker (6) bkim (2) Bob Hazlett (5) Bob Lee (15) bombox (6) Borchers (8) Brajeshwar (19) Brettsky (3) Brian (22) Brian (26) Brian Auer (20) Brian Daniel Eisenberg (7) Bryan (8) Bryan Hughes (3) C.K. - Chris said: So many questions! With its whizzy new V8 JS engine, will Google sites (Maps etc) begin to demand Google Chrome for 'premium' features? Will it support the huge library of Mozilla plugins? (No way I can switch camps without Rikaichan for Japanese translation). And can we trust Google not to mine our data to serve ads (well, more than they do already)? Either way, very interesting times ahead!

Inside Google’s Open Source Browser (5)

The Inquisitr (220) permalink
We’re gaining some new insight into Google’s browser project from an unlikely source: a comic book. The folks over at Google Blogoscoped say they received the book in the mail from Google. While it certainly seems like an unusual thing for Google to do, full scans of the book are posted online, and sending such materials out would sure be an elaborate and rather pointless hoax for anyone to pull off. Digital Inspiration (471) permalink
This quick tutorial will show you how to develop your own functional IM bot that works with Google Talk, Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Live and all other popular instant messaging clients. To get started, all you need to know are some very basic programming skills (any language would do) and web space to host your “bot”. For this example, I have created a dummy bot called “labnol” that listens to your IM messages and return related ...Shared by Aaron (5) Aaron Wangugi (2) Abdul Jaleel (14) adam (666) Adam Dempsey (13) Adam Fuhrer (53) Alexandru Burciu (18) Amish Schulze (16) Amy (62) Andrei Vladescu-Olt (15) Andrew Gatenby (1) Andrew Hughes (25) Andy Davies (3) andymurd (10) angel (244) ani625 (57) Artem (49) asahi (10) atul (70) Avi (425) avianto (5) Bart Muskala (17) Bernie Dodge (9) Bhavesh (14) Boris Smirnov (3) Brian Cuban (1041) Cai Chen (738) Chad Jaggers (5) cheflove (230) Chirag Chamoli (33) Compuwizard123 (16) Darren Isbrecht (77) Dave Woodard (7) Dean Stautberg (2) Derrik (23) Diana (17) docbaily (28) Erwin Tang Yew Hon (33) Ethan Citrin (2) Florian Fiegel (9) George Brickner (21) Håkan (12) Hassan (22) herbaz (7) HIncubus (6) Inthedoghouse (111) Inthenameofmine (361) J.D.
