O resultado deste ...

The latest Firefox 3.1 (code name Shiretoko) nightlies include support for the W3C draft specification of Geolocation API, opening the way for yet richer web applications that can offer content customized to a user’s current location. The API implementation enables the browser to act as a position broker communicating with the computer’s positioning API (probably connected to a GPS device or similar), and providing programmable objects web developers can access to retrieve this information. Due ...

I just realized it's been two years since I started TokyoMango. To celebrate, I am taking a few minutes this morning to revisit the early days, and talk about why I started it and what I used to write about. The Creation StoryI created this blog on a lazy Sunday afternoon. I guess I had a lot of things to say but nobody to say it to. Figured I could blabber about them online. I ...

Marty Friedman was the lead guitarist for Megadeth, but after he left the band in 1999, he moved to Japan and is now a TV celebrity/musician there. Who knew? Apparently, he now lives in Shinjuku and guest stars as the guitarist for lots of Japanese bands. He was a regular on a TV show called Hebimeta-san (Mr. Heavy Metal), and gives YouTube guitar lessons. Pretty random! Marty Friedman's web site (Thanks, Mary!)

Why do people still use IE6? This is a browser that's been released in August 2001 — that's over 7 years ago. It's old, it's got hundreds of compatibility issues, it's not particularly secure and neither does it have many features we come to rely on today in modern browsers. It doesn't even have tabs. But statistics show, that a sizable chunk of the internet is still surfing on IE6. There are a few reasons ...

A notícia é antiquíssima.

The Foxkeh team let us down for a few days without a Foxkeh desktop wallpaper this September, but they have made it up with an updated Foxkeh theme compatible with Firefox 3. You navigate, Foxkeh runs. What else could I possibly say? So, without further ado, here’s the theme: Here’s the September wallpaper featuring Foxkeh doing baby-style skating, as usual, in a variety of sizes, with and without a September calendar. There's a very quick usability trick you can do with the links on your site to make them easier to use. It's something that I don't see talked about very much, and a lot of sites don't implement it. Link padding and blocks — that is, increasing the clickable area of your links to make them easier to click on. Ryan Singer from 37signals has written a very nice article about padding links a while ...

The guy who designed this eraser is a genius! We all know that it's more fun and effective to use the corners, but most simple rectangular erasers only have four at best, and even less once they're used. Well, this plastic eraser, aptly named kadokeshi (corner eraser), has 28 edges! It's distributed by classic stationary maker Kokuyo, and won a Good Design Award in 2003. Product page (Japanese)

I'll give a quick explanation of each. Clockwise, from top left: ...

Gymnastics is one of my favorite events to watch at the Olympics. As expected, China won the gold. Japan took the silver medal, and the US ended up with bronze. No major surprises there. But as I watched the medals being announced on TV with a bunch of friends in Hawaii, one of them said: Wow. The Japanese really don't know how to be happy, huh? While the American and Chinese athletes hugged their coaches ...
