A new JavaScript Engine has hit the pavement running: The new V8 engine (powering the brand-new Google Chrome browser). There are now a ton of JavaScript engines on the market (even when you only look at the ones being actively used in browsers): JavaScriptCore: The engine that powers Safari/WebKit (up until Safari 3.1). SquirrelFish: The engine used by Safari 4.0. In the anticipated release of Google’s new and improved Picasa, the company will offer facial recognition technology to help you identify friends and family in your pictures without requiring you to tag them by-hand each time you see them. One day this month will mark Google’s official tenth birthday. They’ll most likely celebrate with a blog post and a special logo (this one was tweaked based on an earlier one). - Sebastian Werner said: It really seems to be true. Another webkit based browser. It seems that over time Webkit may be more important than Gecko (I vote for this). Adobe AIR, Nokia Nxx, Trolltech Qt, KDE, Apple and now Google Chrome. Hurray.

Will it support the huge library of Mozilla plugins? (No way I can switch camps without Rikaichan for Japanese translation). And can we trust Google not to mine our data to serve ads (well, more than they do already)? Either way, very interesting times ahead!
