This hack available on jailbroken iPhones allows you to hold down the home button when you quit an app to have it continue running in the background. Considering this is homebrew software, it’s probably trivial for Apple to reproduce it but, as we all know, Apple does what Apple wants to do, so we can just suck it. Congratulations taxpayers! Your senators have ridden to the rescue and approved a piece of legislation that should ungum the credit crunch. In the process, your lawmakers also approved extended tax breaks for the film industry in Puerto Rico, and for the makers of "certain wooden arrows designed for use by children." I kid you not. I won't bore you with the details, but if you're interested, the Puerto Rican film industry provision is on page ...

The best part of any superhuman story is when our fledgling hero, having recently discovered his or her powers, totally has fun with them. Think of Iron Man tinkering with his ever-evolving Mark suit, or Spider-Man figuring out how to web-sling. This morning, in the crystalline blue heavens, Swiss airline pilot Yves Rossy felt a similar rush when he strapped only a jet-powered wing to his back and navigated his bad-ass self in the air ...

Windows/Mac/Linux: Free application Xirrus Wi-Fi Monitor is a cross-platform Wi-Fi tool that displays available networks on a very cool radar map. More specifically, the app searches for Wi-Fi networks, displays strength, detects rogue access points, and helps you tweak your network for the best signal. The downside: Xirrus Wi-Fi monitor is only available in widget/gadget/desklet form. That means that in order to use it, on XP and OS X you have to install the Yahoo ...

How to you reassure the public that the giant death machine you've created is actually snuggly like a puppy? Well first off you change it's name. A poll organized by the Royal Society of Chemistry in London sought to do just that, taking suggestions from the public as to what to call the recently activated Large Hadron Collider, which I am constantly in danger of mistyping as 'Large Hardon Collider'. Suggestions ranged from whimsical Puff ...

Filed under: Desktops, Peripherals While the Acrylic Cowboy family of cases still has our hearts (okay, so maybe it's just the mascot that does it for us), Antec's latest offering is certainly worthy of praise. The aptly-dubbed Skeleton is wrongfully hailed as the "world's first open air case," but in reality, it is one of only a handful. Even with all that openness, there's still a 250mm fan up top along with a 92mm one ...

In a few years, you may be able to see Alexandria the way it once was — deep beneath the sea. The areas of classical Alexandria that contained the ancient world's biggest library along with Cleopatra's palace have sunk beneath the waves, but now it looks as if the United Nations may step in and help Egypt show off these structures in a unique underwater museum (architectural drawing above). Above the water, the museum will ...

While John McCain and Sarah Palin lie about all of their changes, Barack Obama is sitting back and telling the country what he plans for change. Take a look at his new 2 minute ad. It’s simple, yet powerful. If you are tired of the lies that the Republicans are spewing (and they are lies, the media has called them out on every lie forcing them to change their story), then get involved and help ...

Believe it or not, Megan Fox didn't just show up in a ripped up tank top to the set of Michael Bay's Transformers, she actually had to audition. Wal-Mart released Fox's original audition tapes to the public as part of a big Transformers promotion. We took a peek and were blown away at how adorable she was. It's pretty hilarious to hear Shia LaBoeuf's oh-god-stammering lines read by someone else as well.

Chrome developers describe one of the features that makes the browser speedier: DNS pre-fetching. When you visit a web page in Chrome, it looks up the IP address of all the links on page before you click on them, in some cases saving you up to a second in DNS-resolution latency time by doing the look-ups preemptively. Type about:histograms/DNS.PrefetchFoundName and about:dns into the address bar to check out your pre-fetch time savings in Chrome. Another ...
