Did I want to really say 'disgraceful'? No. I want to amend it, so make it disfuckinggraceful. Just as Ludwig called it 'unfuckingbelievable'. But a more serious question is this: Why is IIT-M putting up with these morons? As if dissing women in general and IIT alumnae in particular wasn't enough, these guys have put together "a mystic trail" -- right within the IIT-M campus -- that will feature "some of India's most well known ...

Families, caregivers, charities and research groups across the United States are observing September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. In the U.S., over 12,000 children under the age of 21 are diagnosed with cancer every year, approximately 3,000 of them will not survive the disease. A diagnosis can turn the lives of a family upside down - days suddenly filled with alternating moments of courage, frustration, boredom, anxiety and pain. The objective of Childhood Cancer Awareness ...

JAY DIRECTO/AFP/Getty ImagesAmid China's tainted-milk scandal (the subject of this week's photo essay), parents are frightened of buying milk and formula off the shelf for their children. A Chinese entrepreneur was bound to find a way to provide parents an alternative, and one owner of a domestic services company has: the milk nanny. The entrepreneur, Lin Zhimin, put an ad on the Internet offering the service of milk nannies -- lactating women who get paid for ...

Labor and management have often collided over contracts and worker rights but never have matters crossed a line. Well, they did yesterday when the CEO of a Noida company “was bludgeoned to death by a 200-strong armed mob of dismissed workers.” It is a severe setback for labor movement when the rule of the law is openly flouted not only when public property is damaged due to bandhs but as in this case utterly despicable ...

Your difficult boss, customer, prospect, voter, student... probably not stupid, probably just uninformed. There's a huge difference. Every person makes decisions based on their worldview and the data at hand. If two people have the same worldview and the same data, they'll make the same decision, every time (unless they're stupid.) So, there are plenty of times where a lack of information leads to a bad decision. Plenty of times where an out of sync ...

Expensify, the startup that took second place at TC50’s DemoPit, is hoping to ameliorate these issues as much as possible by keeping track of ...

S.R. RAMAKRISHNA writes from Bangalore: Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan, who died earlier this week, was a rare combination of violin maestro and clown. One evening, as we sat listening to him at Visveswarapuram in Bangalore, a plane flew over the Ganesha pandal, its drone making his music inaudible. He stopped in the middle of his raga exposition and looked skywards. The sound of the plane didn’t subside for a long time. The audience waited, slightly puzzled. It ...

Above, Vaidyanathan performs Marudamalai mamaniyae murugaiyya…from the movie Deivam. Below, he takes part in a fusion effort with Zakir Hussain from the album Colors. A.R. Rehman, (then A.S.
