The Legacy of the Blues Maxi Sampler is a generous helping of blues gems culled from GNP's 12-volume series of artist portraits. Together, the 24 performances trace the music's history, following it from southern rural settings up north to the big city. Setups range from bare-bones acoustic guitar and voice to small combos fleshed out with piano, harmonica, and bass. By the time these recordings were made (i.e., the early '70s), the artists here were ...

Gmail offers more options for IMAP through an experimental add-on from Gmail Labs: "Advanced IMAP Controls". After enabling the add-on, you'll find two categories of options:* the Labels tab lets you control which labels show up in your email client, including built-in labels like Drafts, All Mail, Spam or Trash. If you have a lot of messages in your Gmail account, most email clients will perform poorly when processing the "[Gmail]/All Mail" folder, so you ...

NutShellMail appears like just another email and social network message aggregator similar to Fuser, but there’s a critical distinction to be made. NutShellMail will not get blocked by your company’s firewall which means you can now get all of your emails and messages from all of your personal email accounts as well as your MySpace, Facebook and LinkedIn social networking accounts. How does it accomplish this? Well, the secret is that it doesn’t actually require ...

What will the future of humanity look like? We know it probably won’t turn us into a being of pure energy, and it won’t necessarily find us more intelligent or prescient. In fact, according to a leading genetics researcher, humans of the future won’t look much different from the humans of today, as modern life has brought our evolution to a standstill. Professor Steve Jones of the University of London, said in a recent lecture ...

Remember when we told you about Google’s new satellite, GeoEye-1, which should bring highest resolution commercial imagery available to Google Maps? Below, you can see the first image that the satellite captured. GeoEye-1 captures images at .41 meters in black and white and 1.65 meters in color; for real life reference, that means crisp enough to read license plates. Google, however, will receive imagery in 50-centimeter resolution because of a government restriction and the fact ...

Recently at the Barcamp Stuttgart, Stephan Siegloch told of an alleged way to optimize business listings in Google Maps: get a post box (i.e. a business home address, though perhaps not your real one) close to the city center or main station. Then submit that address to Google Maps. This way, your listings would appear closer to the top in local results with Google. Does anyone else have experiences with this? Another tactic reached me ...

Want your Firefox 3 browser to be location-savvy? Mozilla is making that possible with the release of Geode, an “experimental Firefox add-on” intended as something of a holdover until Firefox 3.1 arrives with support for the W3C Geolocation Specification. The purpose of Geode is to give current Firefox installations the option to specify location, determined through Skyhook’s Loki Wi-Fi mapping service, with varying levels of exactness, to be manually chosen by the user. If you ...
