Mozilla, the organization behind the popular Firefox web browser, has extended its search deal with Google for another three years. In return for setting Google as the default search engine on Firefox, Google pays Mozilla a substantial sum - in 2006 the total amounted to around $57 million, or 85% of the company’s total revenue. TiVo held their quarterly call yesterday and, while I don’t pretend to be financial analyst, I’ll share my uninformed observations. As TiVo sometimes does, the Investor Relations group began their earnings day by releasing a bit of fluff news to the press - I don’t know if this is designed to distract the market to soften the blow, juice the stock price, or what. Filed under: Internet, Google Google has added a simple language translation option to the normal search bar. Simply type "translate" followed by the word and the language you want to see. For example "translate download into French" or "translate computer into Spanish." The tool currently works with nine languages including French, Spanish, Italian, German and even Hindi. This is not a substitute for Google Translator. Enter OpenTape, an open source package that essentially recreates the Muxtape experience on a personal level. You simply download the application, unpack it on your web server, and then upload songs. Over the next week, Google will finally be implementing Google Suggest, its auto-complete for searches, on its homepage at Google.com. The service allows users to see the most commonly searched phrases after entering only a few letters, helping users cut back on typing time and check for spelling errors.
