In response to Luke Gedeon’s point-by-point comparison of CrowdVine and Ning I put my own explanation of when and why CrowdVine comes up on top CrowdVine blog. My colleague Danny Dig wants to rebut my last post, but is in the process of moving, so I will attempt to paraphrase his position. Danny is going to the Universal Parallel Computing Research Center, richly funded by Intel and Microsoft along with a sister lab at Berkeley. That fact alone argues against my impression that multicore research is burning out. Where there is funding, there is research. Danny points out that latency can often ...- Quinny said: Short and to the point

Ubiquity (1)
permalinkThis afternoon I spent a little time playing with Aza Raskin’s new mega-meta-extension for Firefox, Ubiquity. (If you’re not up to speed on Ubiquity yet, imagine bookmarklets, extended with power similar to Greasemonkey (including the ability to control your entire browser window) and controlled with a lovely command line interface in the model of enso/Quicksilver). Unsurprisingly, I love it. Ubiquity makes the web more scriptable then ever before, and the current implementation combines several of ...Shared by finalcut (3)

If you haven’t already seen this, let me totally recommend Stuart Halloway’s series on the languages he call Java.next. Highly recommended if you are in any way interested in the languages that will soon replace Java for much application development. Juggernaut: Server-side push for Rails (11)

Juggernaut is a combination of a small Ruby server, a Flash bridge, and a plugin that makes it easy to do server-side push systems in Rails. I played with this idea with Rich Killmer a few years ago and even made a small demo system to present at a conference, but never made it to the finish line of something releasable. So it’s fantastic to see that the guys behind Juggernaut did.Shared by finalcut (3) Florent Solt (0) genki (8) Jana (13) maccman (7) marcolz (19) Marston A, SugarStats (12) MDWeezer (6) Pedro Markun (5) Scott (10) zapnap (18)- MDWeezer said: Wow, pretty impressive little gem. Phusion Passenger - Ruby Apps Easy Deployment on Apache (9)

Phusion Passenger is an Apache module, which makes deploying Ruby and Ruby on Rails applications on Apache a breeze. It follows the usual Ruby on Rails conventions, such as “Don’t-Repeat-Yourself” and ease of setup, while at the same time providing enough flexibility. Phusion Passenger is a commercial supported open source product that enables people to deploy their Ruby on Rails applications in an upload-and-go manner, which is very reminiscent of the PHP way of deploying. ...Shared by Abe (0) Alex (8) Brandon (2) finalcut (3) George (0) Jerome (4) Ryvis (2) Sandaruwan (16) Vinuth (5)- Brandon said: This looks pretty sweet. I used MySQL for years and years before coming across this little MySQL output-formatting tip that makes all the difference in the world when viewing your raw data.
