But, if you don't want that track number stuck in the beginning of your music file names automatically, a quick preference change in iTunes 8 will remove it. Macworld explains that you can fire up Terminal, and type the following commands: defaults write com.apple.iTunes create-filenames-with-disknumber -bool FALSE defaults write com.apple.iTunes create-filenames-with-tracknumber ...

The economic meltdown on Wall Street during the past few weeks is going to trickle down to your street, whether or not you're a big investor in the stock market. Not to sound all doomsday—because goodness knows we're all stressed enough watching the news these days—but chances are things are gonna get ugly this coming winter and continue into an even worse-looking 2009. While foot rubs, yoga, and deep breathing will certainly help, getting your ...

Salon interviews Jennifer McLagan, author of Fat: An Appreciation of a Misunderstood Ingredient, with Recipes, and comes away with the message that animal fat is not the death of your health, or your arteries. Noting that most people now eat less animal fat, but more fat overall, McLagan authors this tidbit to mull over when considering your next seemingly sinful recipe: Animal fats have lots of good fatty acids that fight disease, help absorb vitamins ...

Holy smokes, scary stuff went down on Wall Street today. After the bailout package rejection and the Wachovia bank takeover, regular people with regular amounts of money have reason to be concerned about what they need to do with their retirement investments, savings accounts, and the possibility of unemployment. The New York Times runs down a plain-talk question and answer series that covers everything from whether or not now is the time to buy stocks ...

In an oddly-delayed report, the NY Times notes that for the first time ever in the fourth quarter of 2007, Americans sent more text messages than made voice calls on their cellphones. Since then, the volume of text messages has gone up 64%, while the volume of calls has only reduced a bit. Teenagers are mostly responsible for the big increase in SMS messages, but my guess is that power users are also leading the ...

Insalata caprese, an Italian classic, becomes an instant halloween classic as well. The traditional ingredients for this delicate salad are fresh mozzarella, basil, plum tomatoes and olive oil, seasoned with salt and pepper. Our version goes only slightly further, adding a thin slice of olive as the garnish. And, a clever trick produces perfectly round pupils every time. Taking a step back, let us note that this isn't a new sport. Gory, shocking, and other "gross-out" ...

With all the recent hype surrounding Google's Chrome, it's refreshing to see someone taking a few steps back and looking at the bigger picture. Seeing my nationality, I know a tulip mania when I see ...
