Filed under: T-Mobile, Android Yeah, the wait for October 22 (or after) is absolutely excruciating; trust us, we know. We'll take every scrap of information and imagery we can to hold us over until G1s start showing up on doorsteps in a few weeks, but T-Mobile's really gone above and beyond the call of duty here by setting up a surprisingly functional and feature-complete emulator to satisfy our urges to touch icons and click buttons. ...

Google has just launched a new homepage for its blog search that bears a strong resemblance to Techmeme, Memeorandum and their “memetracker” counterparts. The site displays a listing of the top stories from across a variety of topics including business, politics, technology, and entertainment. Memetrackers identify emerging trends on the web, especially across blogs. They are often the best way to learn about breaking news stories, as they can automatically monitor hundreds (or more) news ...

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer announces that within a month, MS will release a new operating system he described as "Windows Cloud"—for cloud computing. Computerworld reports: The operating system, which will likely have a different name, is intended for developers writing cloud-computing applications, said Ballmer, who spoke to an auditorium of IT managers at a Microsoft-sponsored conference in London. The Windows Cloud OS is a separate project from the upcoming Windows 7. Sheesh, this fall is ...

Filed under: Peripherals For any iPhone or iPod user brimming with energy that might otherwise go wasted on aimless fidgeting, Swedish designer Peter Thuvander has devised the perfect way for you to marry your hyperactivity and your love for your Apple device: the iYo YOYO Induction Charger. While playing with the charger as you would an ordinary yo-yo, a small lithium-ion battery is charged inside, which in turn powers your device. The idea sounds great, ...

Hardware schmardware. Real wireless geeks know that pretty industrial design is only skin deep. The software on the inside is what makes the difference between a barely usable piece of eye candy (Motorola Z10, we're looking at you) and a revolutionary, industry-changing device like the iPhone. That's why your next cellphone will have a slicker user interface, a cleaner menu and plenty of mobile applications to help you manage your photos, videos, evening plans and ...

Yahoo on Wednesday announced that it will bring its oneConnect social address book application to Apple’s App Store to work on both the iPhone and iPod touch. Yahoo’s oneConnect application lets users integrate contacts, send instant messages or SMS messages, and view their friends’ latest activity on social networks. What’s most compelling about oneConnect is that it doesn’t bog you down in solely Yahoo software. Instead, the service supports AOL Instant Messenger along with Yahoo ...

We generally frown on companies showing slides during a TechCrunch50 demo. But FitBit (which demoed its health activity monitoring device live as well) put up this slide to underscore its point that obesity is a growing problem. The slide shows how the distribution of T-shirt sizes at the Linux Symposium has shifted towards the XL and XXL side of the scale. I’m convinced. Linux programmers need FitBit. Some of my buddies have expressed astonishment that I get approximately thirty-six hours of standby with my iPhone, so I'm sharing my settings. Note: this is my second 3G iPhone--I returned the first one because I was getting only five hours of standby time. This is my usage screen. One thing to notice: I don't talk much on the phone--"talk is not cheap" in my book. I am totally an email/tweet centric person. This clearly ...

Guy's approach is a bit extreme- I really don't think I should turn off all of the advanced features on my phone. But it's a good example that the iPhone's standby time can be improved with some customization. We just need an app to support Locations and swap settings like the Macs too.
